Squad Swimming Strucure
The Aquatic Sport & Recreation Coaching Program carries on from the Aquatic Education Program and covers all levels of swimming.

The RFSS program has been structured on the fact that there are five basic phases of athlete development in age group swimming. At each level of the program, we continually try to evaluate and adapt to a multitude of factors, both physiological and sociological, that impact the growth and development of young athletes.
MINI- SQUAD:-
Duration- 45 minutes Suggested lesson attendance- 1 to 3 times / week Session Timetables- Burleigh Beach / Spring Hill / Currumbin
This level requires the swimmers to perform small sets of consecutive 25m or 50m lengths while still holding a good technique. This squad aims to begin educating the swimmers in training etiquette and techniques. Emphasis is placed on developing the swimmer's technique in all strokes and their basic fitness level in a friendly atmosphere.
JUNIOR SQUAD:
Duration- 60 minutes Suggested lesson attendance- 2 to 4 times / week Session Timetables- Burleigh Beach / Spring Hill / Currumbin
To be eligible for junior squad swimmers must be capable of swimming all four strokes correctly. Emphasis in this group is still on developing correct technique in all four strokes and learning race starts, turns, correct push-offs, how to use the pace clock & developing aerobic fitness in preparation for development squad level training. Junior Squads are beginning to do more laps & also mini sets whilst concentrating on stroke correction and skills acquisition.
"Elite Squad Program"
DEVELOPMENT SQUAD:
Duration- 90 minutes approx Suggested lesson attendance- minimum of 3 times / week Session Timetables- Burleigh Beach / Spring Hill / Currumbin
This squad is designed for swimmers who show a desire and ability to undertake a higher level of swimming training. The squad aims to strengthen and enhance the swimmers' understanding, & implementation of training techniques and etiquette. Swimmers in this level also concentrate on refining their technique in all strokes and improving their basic fitness level.
SENIOR SQUAD-
Duration- as required by Head Coach Suggested lesson attendance- as required by Head Coach Session Timetables- Burleigh Beach / Spring Hill / Currumbin
Focus is to build upon the knowledge and experiences acquired from development squad. It is comprised of the most mature and talented athletes in the RFSS program. The focus of this squad is to train and perform to the athlete’s full potential whilst being leaders and role models for future RFSS athlete generations. State & National squad swimmers adhere to a rigorous cycle of sessions planned to derive peak performances during the surf / triathlon & swimming seasons at State & National Level. All Squad sessions include STROKE CORRECTION, PROGRAM & ENTRY
